Author’s Notes
… letting go of things that cannot be changed—regret, guilt …
According to Carol Lee Campbell, creator of the Crone Stones, the body has infinite energy—we simply have to tap into it. I might argue with that on most days. But I suspect she speaks a truth—particularly as I consider how much energy might be wasted on those things we cannot change.
The stone named Let Go reminds us that part of the journey has reached its natural end, and the high of that segment must “ebb.” Sometimes that ebb carries a sadness or sense of loss, but letting go also frees us to receive anew.
In Almost, I celebrate the cycle of letting go and receiving again—though at the time I wrote these words, I was only just beginning to grow receptive. I have since opened further.
ALMOST
I light you
and send you off
afloat, away
you’ve overstayed
my meaning
Had I known
this could this would
happen to you
because of me because
of he I would have
played parturition differently
for you not me
Not the joy would I erase
but the pain I imposed
was it mine, yours—definitely ours
Hours and here you come
floating back around that old tub
stained, still lit
Extinguish I will
forgive I shall
someday
part with regret
and never forget
the joy, your love
my pain—
extinguished.

I have lit candles and set them afloat to acknowledge regret or mourn loss.
How about you?
Do you have a ritual for letting someone or something go?
Tell me—if you’d like—I am listening. Always.
