And you are spot-on that "Fathom" shares some family resemblance with tanka—short stanzas with a lot packed in. Mine stray from the 5–7–5–7–7 syllable pattern, so they’re not quite tankas … more like distant poetic cousins who show up at reunions with their own sea shanties.
