Last of the Ascension (Verse) - 24
Unmasked
She held the space—
until it held him.
He did not look away—
because he could not.
“They told you—
something was missing.”
“And you believed them.”
“Because you needed to.”
He blinked—
too late to refuse it.
“I saw it.”
“Light—
in the ruins.”
She nodded—
without agreement.
“Longing.”
“Magnified.”
“Not given.”
He broke—
quietly.
“I need it.”
“How else—
do I atone?”
“You already are.”
No emphasis—
only fact.
“The shells—
do not bind you.”
“You bind yourself.”
