Last of the Ascension (Verse) - 32
Ascended
Silence.
Not empty—
shared.
“What is it?”
She asked—
though she knew.
He searched—
not for words, but for truth.
“You honor me.”
“And I—
would stay.”
He faltered—
because wanting had changed.
“But—”
She lifted him—
before he could kneel again.
He did not belong there—
any longer.
“You have ascended.”
Not upward—
never that.
“And still—
you remain.”
He asked—
because he must.
Even knowing.
“You cannot undo it—
and still you ask.”
“So be it.”
She leaned—
not divine, not distant.
A kiss—
salt meeting salt.
He changed—
not in form.
In condition.
She rose—
as she always would.
“Tovangar—
is yours.”
Not possession—
responsibility.
She moved across the water—
low, then gone.
Like a gull—
like a star.
He remained.
